November 11th is a special and historic federal holiday set aside for honoring veterans across all military branches.
Welcome to Development with Danielle©, my weekly “Women in Construction” blog
Hi, I’m Danielle Wright, President and CEO of Right Choice Construction. Every November 11, we pause to honor veterans for their service—those in our own families and all who have served at home and abroad. Today, we observe the courage, dedication, and sacrifices of these noble veterans, who are the foundation upon which our freedoms stand!
From all of us at Right Choice Construction, we extend our deepest appreciation.
Be Sure to Thank a Veteran on this Federal Holiday!
Veterans Day originated as Armistice Day. On November 11, 1919, President Woodrow Wilson addressed Americans about the Allied powers’ ceasefire agreement with Germany ending the war, followed by a congressional resolution in 1926 calling on President Calvin Coolidge to issue annual proclamations for the observance of November 11.
On May 13, 1938, Congress approved November 11 as a federal holiday. In 1954, our nation began referring to this observance as Veteran’s Day — honoring the living military members who walk among us as opposed to Memorial Day, which honors those who have died in service.
I should add that several states now recognize Women Veterans Day on June 12 to specifically honor women who have served in the U.S. military, acknowledging them as essential to war efforts and the regular armed forces.
Our team members at Right Choice Construction tip our hard hats to our noble military men and women.
