One of the most important things you can do as a woman in the trades is to know your community—especially the places where you work or wish to work. Customers appreciate when you take the time to understand the roots, lore, history, and culture of their locales. Being “community aware” can build goodwill and might be an advantage in the bidding process.
Do The Footwork to Know Your Community and Get Plugged In
This week’s Development with Danielle© focuses on the Rice Village District located next to the Texas Medical Center and Rice University. I am proud that my company, Right Choice Construction, has delivered some awesome retail and restaurant build-outs and remodels in the Rice Village District.
But first, I got to know this shopping mecca personally, including the layout of the land.
The Houston Chronicle does an excellent job of capturing the beauty, excitement, and historic significance of this area. According to the article, “These days, the 16-block area is bordered by Kirby Drive, University Boulevard, Morningside Drive, Rice Boulevard, and Times Boulevard, and contains 41 retailers with 20 dining options, including an assortment of popular restaurants that serve flavorful cuisine.”
As a commercial general contractor and a member of the Retail Contractors Association (RCA), it’s an honor when our work is highlighted. Our Face Haus project is mentioned in the Houston Chronicle article, and Allbirds, Duck Camp, and Van Leeuwen Ice Cream are also some of our favorite job sites. Most recently, we are busy with a 15,000-square–foot Gap store demo on University Boulevard.
